Get found in ChatGPT
From invisible to named in the answers where your customers make their choice.
You get found in ChatGPT by literally answering your customers' questions on a site AI crawlers can read, and by being mentioned on the sources ChatGPT trusts. There is no ad button and no sign-up form; visibility in ChatGPT is earned through content, engineering and authority.
We measure daily that this can be built. Hogedruk.be did not exist two years ago and is now named in one in five ChatGPT answers in its market. This page explains how that works and where you can start yourself.
How does ChatGPT choose which brands to name?
ChatGPT builds an answer from two layers. The first is model knowledge: what it learned during training from texts that did or did not mention your brand. The second is live search: for many questions ChatGPT consults the web and cites pages that answer the question directly. You can influence both layers, but with different work: model knowledge grows through consistent mentions on external sources, while citations are won with pages that give the best answer per question.
What our measurements show again and again: a ChatGPT answer names only three to five brands, and there is no page two. Fall outside that shortlist and you simply do not exist for that question. That turns every question in your market into a separate contest for a handful of spots.
Why your brand is not being mentioned (yet)
The cause is almost always one of three things. Your content describes your offering instead of answering questions, so there is nothing to cite. Your site is technically unreadable for AI crawlers, sometimes literally: we regularly find sites where GPTBot is accidentally blocked in robots.txt. Or your brand barely exists beyond your own site, so the model does not know your name and will not risk naming it.
Which of the three applies to you is measurable. That is why every engagement starts with a measurement of your current mentions in ChatGPT, next to those of your competitors. Only then do we decide where the work is.
Wondering what this means for your site?
Ask usWhat you can do this month
Building visibility in ChatGPT takes months, but the first steps fit in four weeks.
- Check your robots.txt and admit GPTBot and OAI-SearchBot
- Pick the ten questions customers ask you most and answer each on its own page, answer in the first paragraph
- Add structured data for your organisation, services and frequently asked questions
- Publish an llms.txt on your site with your offering and your most important pages
- Ask ChatGPT ten customer questions from your market yourself and note who gets named: that is your starting point
If you would rather not figure this out alone, this is exactly the work we take off your hands in our AI search engagements, monthly measurement included.
The proof: from zero to 1 in 5 ChatGPT answers
For Hogedruk.be we built brand, site and visibility entirely from scratch. Within six months ChatGPT is their strongest channel, at 19.5 percent visibility, and in AI answers about their market they get cited more often than Kärcher. The first enquiries arrived within two weeks of going live.
Dakwerken Roofit shows what comes next: number one in ChatGPT as well as Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, cited three times more often than the second-strongest domain in their market. Eight in ten enquiries concern their speciality, exactly the work they want to do.
What does it cost to get found in ChatGPT?
Three factors set the investment: how often ChatGPT already mentions your brand, how many questions there are to win in your market, and how entrenched the brands are that take the answers today. A niche with weak answers is faster to conquer than a broad market with strong players.
You pay a fixed monthly fee and are never locked in: no annual contract, no months-long notice period. After a first conversation we dig into your starting position and you receive a proposal that fits it.
Frequently asked questions
No. ChatGPT does not sell spots in its answers. Mentions are organic: the model picks brands and sources based on what it has learned and what it finds live. That is good news for those who do the work, because an earned spot cannot be advertised away by a competitor with a bigger budget.
Ask ChatGPT the questions your customers ask, in several phrasings, and note who gets named. A single question tells you little; answers vary per session. We measure it structurally, with dozens of prompts per market and repeated runs per model, so that in an engagement you know exactly where you stand.
Faster than many people think. Hogedruk.be started without a site, without a brand name and without history, and took one in five ChatGPT answers in its market within six months. The condition is that engineering, content and external mentions are built up together from day one.
Yes. Without search, ChatGPT leans on model knowledge and names brands without citing sources; with search, it cites pages it finds live. Citations can be won within weeks through strong answer pages, while model knowledge builds more slowly via external mentions. A good engagement works on both.
Largely. The foundation, readable engineering and answer-first content, helps on every platform. The accents differ: Perplexity searches live almost always and cites generously, while Google AI Overviews leans heavily on your existing Google rankings. That is why we measure your visibility per model separately.
