Where they stood

In 2022 BIKEBAZE began as an idea: tackling bike theft with a register where anyone can record their bike by frame number, free of charge. Registers already existed, but they are purely administrative. You record something, and if your bike disappears you hope for the best.

The idea was not the register. The idea was the community.

A tamper-proof sticker with a QR code that anyone can scan to see whether a bike is registered as stolen. Thousands of users forming a network together. That turns a database into a deterrent, and it is precisely the part you cannot build by putting a form on a website.

What we did

Build

Live quickly with a low-code setup in Webflow, so the idea could be tested before months of development went into it. Once traction came, the platform grew into a custom backend. That is the order many startups get backwards: build first, then find out whether anyone wants it.

The full brand identity was created here. And a data dashboard was built for municipalities, insurers and lease companies, because the data on where bikes disappear is at least as valuable to them as the register itself is to a cyclist.

Alongside the technology, organic growth and targeted advertising campaigns are running.

What came out

BIKEBAZE is the largest bike registration platform in the Netherlands and the only one built on a community. It is active internationally and works with police, municipalities, insurers and lease companies. Cyclists can also transfer ownership safely when selling, which makes the second-hand market more trustworthy.
